Meditation Focus: Observe Your Thoughts

Thoughts seem to just appear within consciousness, the awareness or the state of being aware of one's own thoughts, feelings and surroundings. Thoughts emerge within this field of awareness similar to how images appear on a screen.

I dedicate 10-30 minutes of my day to become aware of each thought. You can do this for any amount of time that feels comfortable for you.

Lay down or sit up straight with your head, neck and chest in alignment.

Simply observe each thought as it appears, without reacting or judging the thought.

Remember, you are the witness to the thought, not the thought itself.

You will notice how temporary each thought is when you don't allow them to dominate your attention. Each thought arises, exists for a moment, and then fades away.

Consciousness is the space in which all thoughts arise, exist and dissolve.

For this meditation, that's all you have to do. Observe your thoughts.

You may do this for as long as you'd like. I recommend at the very least, 5 minutes.

Try to incorporate this practice at least once per day.

Gently close your eyes, and begin.
